Lotus Energy, in conjunction with Empower Consults New Zealand,
Annapurna Conservation Area Program (ACAP) and Himalayan Light
Foundation has successfully installed more than 16 solar and hydro
powered ozone water purifiers in numerous remote areas of Nepal,
such as Kagbeni, Jomsom and Mukti Nath and additional systems are
awaiting to be installed in the Everest trekking circuit. The
program called "Solar Powered Ozone Water treatment Systems" or
"SPOWTSTM" allows villagers to sell clean water to
trekkers with no empty bottle pollution. This helps villagers earn
cash incomes while preserving the environment and saving tourists
money as well.
The units contains two individual 1 gram / hr ozone generators.
Water is re-circulated with the water pump pushing the water across
a filter and then a small venturi which is used to mix the ozone
into the water. The venturi contains a back-flow prevention valve
and for additional protection of the electrical equipment there is a
J-tube incorporated into the ozone tube that will not allow water to
find its way into the ozone unit. The water treatment is measured
and controlled using an ORP meter. The ORP meter uses mili volts
(mV) as a measure to determine the dosage of ozone that has been
delivered to the water for the safety for human consumption.
SPOWTSTM are available in two models: 220VAC for larger
and hydro powered applications and a 12Volt DC model for smaller
requirements like a small lodge far away from Hydro or grid power.
SPOWTSTM can be installed in one day and are low
maintenance serviceable with a long term maintenance contract from
Lotus Energy to assure uninterrupted water purification
